ঠিক কবে অ, আ এবং আলিফ বা কিংবা অ, ই-এর শিক্ষা নিয়েছি মনে নইে। আসলে ছোটবেলার ছোট ছোট ঘটনা মনে থাকে না বড়বেলাতেও। সর্বদা মনে থাকে বড় বড় ঘটনা, কোন অ্যাক্সিডেন্ট, মজাদার কিংবা অদ্ভুত কিছু। আর নিজেদের মানুষ বলেতো তোমাদের বলতেও কোন লজ্জা নেই শৈশবের সেদিনগুলিতে কানামাছি ভো ভো, চোর-পুলিশ, দাড়িয়া-বাঁধা আর হা-ডু-ডু ঢের বেশি মজাদার ছিল কাঠখোট্টা পড়ালেখার চাইতে। বলতাম, ইস্ লেখাপড়াটা কোন ব্যাটা আবিষ্কার করেছে তাকে যদি পেতাম; এইস্যা…। এখন বুঝি সে সময়টা নষ্ট না করলে আজকে কত ভাল হতো। তবে কিছু লাভতো হয়েছেই। সময় বদলে গেছে, এখনকার শহুরে ছেলেমেয়েরা হঠাৎ করে ঐসব খেলার নাম শুনলে মার্কিন ‘হু ওয়ান্টস টু বি অ্যা মিলিয়নিয়ার’-এর ভারতীয় সংস্করণ ‘কোন বনেগা ক্রোড়পতি’ এর বাংলাদেশী সংস্করণ “কে হতে চায় কোটিপতি” এর প্রতিযোগীর মতো বলবে ‘কানামাছি ভো ভো’ সুকুমার রায়ের একটি বিখ্যাত ছড়ার নাম। ‘চোর-পুলিশ’ হচ্ছে ঈদে সদ্য মুক্তিপ্রাপ্ত ডিপজলের একটি হিট সিনেমার নাম। আর ‘দাড়িয়া বাঁধা’ চিটাগাং রোডের একটি বিখ্যাত স্টেশন। আবার সাথে ফোড়ন কেটেও বলতে পারে- আরে কিচ্ছু জানেন না দেখছি, হা-হা…, হা-ডু-ডু হচ্ছে সিঙ্গাপুরের সাবেক নাকি বর্তমান প্রধানমন্ত্রীর নাম। (আর তোমাদের জানার জন্য বলছি, কারণ গ্রামের সহজ সরল মানুষেরা এখনও হয়তো জানেই না হা-ডু-ডু কিন্তু সত্যি বাতিল। স্বাধীনতা লাভের পর এক অজ্ঞাতকারণে এর নাম হলো কাবাডি, সম্ভবত এর কারণ, যারা দয়া করে আমাদের স্বাধীনতায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ আবদান রেখেছিল সেই প্রতিবেশীদেশের চারটি অঙ্গরাজ্যে এ খেলার নাম কাবাডি, তাই বোধ হয় স্বকীয়তা বাদ দিয়ে আমরা অতি বিনয়ীর মতো তাদের অনুকরণ করলাম।)
আমার আব্বা-আম্মা ছিলেন শিক্ষক দম্পতি। সব ভাইবোনদের শৈশব কেটেছে করটিয়ায় নানাবাড়িতে। মরহুম আব্বা সে সময় সরকারি মতিঝিল বালক বিদ্যালয়ের বিএসসি শিক্ষক- প্রতিদিন ঢাকা-টাঙ্গাইল ভয়ঙ্কর ঝক্কি-ঝামেলার আপ-ডাউন করতেন। আর আম্মা সদ্য ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে এমএ শেষ করেই করটিয়ায় স্বনামধন্য জমিদার পরিবারের প্রতিষ্ঠিত আবেদা খানম গার্লস স্কুলের প্রধান শিক্ষিকা। সকালে ঘুম থেকে উঠে তাদের দর্শন পেতাম না আর রাতে আমাদের ঘুমানোর আগে অনেক সময়ই তাদের ফেরা হতো না। তাই শুক্রবারসহ বন্ধের দিনগুলি ছিল আমাদের কাছে ঈদের মতোই আনন্দের। লেখাপড়ার হাতেখড়ি নিয়েছি নানাবাড়িতে নানা জনের কাছ থেকেই। শৈশবে নানু, মামার সুললিত কুরআন তেলাওয়াতের মধুর সুর এখনও কানে বাজে। নানু একটি মজার স্বপ্নের কথা প্রায়ই বলতেন, তিনি ছিলেন স্বশিক্ষিত প্রায় শতাধিক লাইনের স্বরচিত কবিতা তিনি আগ্রহী কেউ এলেই শুনিয়ে দিতেন। তার স্বপ্নের কথায় আসি, ছোট্টবেলা হতেই তার ছিল কুরআন পড়ার প্রচণ্ড আগ্রহ। কিন্তু কার কাছে পড়বেন? অল্প বয়সে বিয়ে হলো সেখানেও সুযোগ নেই কারণ স্বামী (আমার নানা) সরকারি চাকরিতে তখন কলকাতায়। অগত্যা কুরআনের প্রতি ভালোবাসা নিয়ে লেগে থাকতেন। একদিন রাতে স্বপ্ন দেখলেন অপরিচিত এক ঘোড়সওয়ার এসে তাকে বললো, ‘আমার সাথে কুরআন পড়ো।’ নানু বললো, আমিতো পড়তে পারি না। অতঃপর আশ্চর্যজনকভাবে সেই আগুন্তুকের সাথে তিনি পড়ে গেলেন। অদ্ভুত সেই জ্যোতির্ময় ঘোড়সওয়ার চলে গেলে স্বপ্নের ভেতরই একজন পাশ থেকে বলে উঠলেন উনি নবী মুহাম্মদ (সা)। সেই থেকে নানু কারো সাহায্য ছাড়াই সহীহ করে কুরআন তেলাওয়াত করতে পারতেন। শিশুমনে রূপকথার মতোই শোনা সেই ঘটনাটি গভীর চিহ্ন এঁকে দেয়। আর প্রতীতি সৃষ্টি হয় যে মহাগ্রন্থ আল কুরআন মহান প্রভুর এক শাশ্বত মুজিজা। আজকে সেই মুজিজা নিয়েই কথা বলবো।
কিছুটা বয়স হলে জানতে পারি, আমিরুল মোমিনিন হজরত ওমর (রা)-এর কথা। যিনি রাসূল (সা)কে হত্যা করতে নাঙ্গা তলোয়ার নিয়ে বের হয়ে অবশেষে নিজ বোনের কাছে আল কুরআনের সূরা ত্বা-হা এর ১৪ নম্বর আয়াত শুনেই ভীতকম্পিত হয়ে মুসলিম হয়ে গেলেন। আলহাজ মাওলানা ফজলুল করিম তার ‘মিশকাত আল মাসাবিহ’-এর ইংরেজি অনুবাদের ১৮৬ পৃষ্ঠায় টিকায় চমৎকার একটি ঘটনার কথা উল্লেখ করেছেন। তৎকালীন ইসলাম পূর্ব আরবের শ্রেষ্ঠ কবি তোফায়েল বিন আমর সুদাসি রাসূল (সা)-এর কাছে এসে চ্যালেঞ্জের সুরে নিজের কবিতার কিছু অংশবিশেষ আবৃত্তি করেন, তার জবাবে রাসূল (সা) তাকে সূরা ইখলাস পড়ে শুনান। অতঃপর সে কবি অভিভূত ও অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে ইসলাম ধর্ম গ্রহণ করেন। উক্ত কিতাবের ১৮৮ পৃষ্ঠায় বিখ্যাত কবি লবিদ ইবনে রাবিয়ার একটি কবিতার কথা উল্লেখ আছে যা সে সময়ের রেওয়াজ অনুযায়ী সর্বসাধারণের জন্য চ্যালেঞ্জ আকারে কা’বা শরীফের দরজায় লাগানো ছিল। তৎকালীন আরবের কোনো কবির সাধ্য হলো না সমমর্যাদার কোন কবিতা তার পার্শ্বে লাগিয়ে সে চ্যালেঞ্জের জবাব দেয়ার। রাসূলের নির্দেশে তার পার্শ্বে শুধুমাত্র সূরা বাকারার প্রথম আয়াত ‘আলিফ, লাÑম, মিম’ লাগিয়ে রাখা হয়। লবিদ লোকমুখে শুনে অতঃপর নিজে দেখে এর ছন্দ, মর্ম উপলব্ধি করে স্তম্ভিত হয়ে যান। তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে নিজের কবিতা সরিয়ে ফেলে বলেন, ‘এটি কোনো মানুষের কথা হতে পারে না।’ অতঃপর রাসূল (সা)-এর কাছে গিয়ে তিনি ইসলাম কবুল করেন। এ রকম হাজারো ঘটনা পাওয়া যাবে জ্যোতির্ময় আল কুরআনকে সামনে রেখে।
রাসূল (সা)-এর ইন্তেকালের প্রায় ১৩০০ বছর পরের একটি ঘটনা উল্লেখ করলে কেমন হয়? ২৯ নভেম্বর, ১৯১৭ ওয়েস্ট লন্ডনের নটিংহলে একটি চমৎকার প্রোগ্রাম। মুসলিম লিটারারি সোসাইটি কর্তৃক ‘Islam and Progress’ শীর্ষক একটি বক্তৃতা অনুষ্ঠান। জ্বালাময়ী বক্তব্য রাখছিলেন ব্রিটেনের অভিজাত বংশীয় ঔপন্যাসিক, সাংবাদিক ও শিক্ষাবিদ মার্মাডিউক পিকথল (Marmaduke Pickthall-1875 – 1936) বক্তৃতার শেষ পর্যায়ে তিনি সবাইকে অবাক করে দিয়ে নিজের ইসলাম গ্রহণের ঘোষণা দিলেন। ১৯২০ সালে তিনি স্ত্রীসহ ইন্ডিয়ায় চলে আসেন এবং বোম্বে ক্রনিকল পত্রিকার সম্পাদক হন। সেখানে থাকা অবস্থাতেই তিনি রচনা করেন মহাগ্রন্থ আল কুরআনের বিখ্যাত অনুবাদ “The Meaning of the Glorious Koran.Ó (Mohammed) Marmaduke Pickthall  তার অনুবাদের ভূমিকাতে কুরআনের আবেদন সম্পর্কে লিখেন “That inimitable symphony, the very sounds of which move men to tears of joy and ec-stasy.”

Each mosque as 1 hafidh minimum. So at minimum there are 2.5 million people who have memorized the Holy Quran to the letter. 99.99% we can say that a mosque has 2 hafidhs at minimum. One can make a general assessment based on the number of mosques there are in the world. Unless there is study done, it would be hard to answer your question, which to my little knowledge has not been done recently .There is a mosque for every 300 persons perhaps. If there are 1.2 billion Muslims, that means there are approximately four million mosques. In each mosque if you consider an average of about two huffaaz or those who have memorized the Quran, then there would be about eight million people who have memorized it. My guess is the number could range from a minimum of a one million to about twenty million maximum, from about twelve hundred million Muslims that exist on Earth today.

অন্যান্য ধর্মাবলম্বীদের মহাগ্রন্থের বিপরীতে আল কুরআনের হাফিজের সংখ্যা সম্পর্কে আমাদের একটি ধারণা হলো। এবার একটু আন্দাজ করতে চেষ্টা করি এই জীবন্ত মুজিজা আল কুরআন হিফজ করা কতটা বিশাল কাজ। এখন একটু জানি এর পরিধি সম্পর্কে। এখানেও আবার এক বিপদ যদি বলি এর আয়াত সংখ্যা কত? দেখা যাবে, দায়সারাভাবে একেক বইতে একেক রকম দেয়া আছে। এটি বলছি কেন আমরা সবাই জানি এ সংখ্যা ৬৬৬৬। কিন্তু আমার প্রশ্ন তোমরা কি এটি কখনও হিসাব করে দেখেছ? কঠিন প্রশ্ন নয় কী? অথচ দেখ, তোমাদের অনেকেরই কিন্তু সাকিব আল হাসান, মুশফিকুর রহীম, শহীদ আফ্রিদি, টেন্ডুলকারের স্কোর মুখস্থ। তাহলে সূরা ফাতিহা থেকে নাস পর্যন্ত প্রতিটি সূরার নাম বা শুধু সিরিয়াল নাম্বার লিখে তার বিপরীতে আয়াত সংখ্যাগুলি বসিয়ে যোগ করলেই তো আমরা কাক্সিক্ষত সংখ্যাটি পেয়ে যাবো। ১১৪ সূরার বিপরীতে ১১৪টি সংখ্যার একটি যোগ। বিয়োগ, গুণ বা ভাগ নয়। সবচেয়ে সহজ বিষয় যোগ। এ কাজটি কি তোমরা কখনও করেছ? আচ্ছা না করে থাকলে, স্যরি, স্যরি, স্যরি। তবে এ যোগটি আজই করতে পার কিন্ত। হ্যাঁ, সংখ্যাটি পাবে ৬২৩৬। হ্যাঁ এটিই সর্বমোট আয়াত সংখ্যা। সত্যি কথা কি আমরা কুরআন হিফজে আলহামদুলিল্লাহ যথেষ্ট পারদর্শী হলেও কুরআনকেন্দ্রিক আমাদের গবেষণা কিন্তু নেই বললেই চলে। যাকগে আমি আজ ব্যাপক গবেষণায় না গিয়ে হিফজের বিষয় নিয়েই থাকি।
কত বিশাল এই আল কুরআন? এর পারা সংখ্যা-৩০, সূরা সংখ্যা-১১৪, রুকু সংখ্যা -১০০০, আয়াত সংখ্যা ৬২৩৬। এতে যবর আছে ৯৩,২৪৩টি, জের আছে ৩৯.৫৮৬টি, ওয়াক্বফ ৫০৯৮টি, তাশদিদ আছে ১৯,২৫৩টি। এতে শব্দ আছে ৭৭,৭০১টি, হরফ বা বর্ণ আছে ৩,২৩,৬৭১টি। আর ফোঁটা বা নোকতা (যেমন বা-এর নিচে এক ফোঁটা তা-এর উপর দুই ফোঁটা ইত্যাদি ) আছে ১০,১৫,০৩০টি। কত বিশাল একটি বিষয় তাই না? এর সমুদয় কিছু মনে রেখেইতো কুরআন হিফজ করতে হয়। এটি হিমালয় বা চন্দ্র জয় করার চাইতেও বিশাল কাজ, নয় কী? তবে প্রায় ১ কোটির মত মানুষ শৈশবেই এটি পারছে কেন? কারণ এটি আল্লাহর কালাম। এটিই জীবন্ত মুজিজা। মিরাকল অব দ্যা মিরাকলস।

(RNS) A new documentary follows three Muslim children as they travel to Egypt to compete in a tournament that requires young contestants to recite whole passages of the Quran, Islam’s 600-page holy book, from memory.
Each year during Ramadan — a Muslim holy month when believers fast, pray and read from the Quran — 100 students from more than 70 countries flock to Cairo for the International Holy Quran Competition.
Greg Barker, a former war correspondent and creator of films such as “Ghosts of Rwanda,” captured the contest in his new documentary “Koran by Heart,” which is set to premiere on HBO on August 1, the first night of Ramadan. Barker’s film tells the story of three 10-year-olds — two boys and one girl — as they travel to the competition.All three dedicated most of their early years to memorizing every word of the Quran — even though they do not speak or understand Arabic, the language in which the holy book is written.”(The contest) is a window into the world that most non-Muslims or Westerners don’t see. It … puts a human face on the religion,” Barker said.Quran recitations are a regular practice throughout the Muslim world, although they are especially auspicious during Ramadan. Muslims believe it to be the month when the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Much of the film focuses on the relationships between the young contestants and their families, offering a glimpse into the daily life of the broader Muslim world.
“These kids are young, not really aware of the politics surrounding Islam, Barker said, “but we see through their families the larger issues that they’re grappling with.”
In this way every word was written down and preserved during his lifetime by his companions. The Quran contains 114 chapters; 6616 verses; 77,934 words; and 323,671 letters that have remained unchanged since the end of revelation (more than 1400 years ago!) The original and complete text of the Quran is in Arabic and translations of its meaning in most known languages are available in major libraries and bookstores.
Hadith, the teachings, sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad, accurately reported and collected by his devoted companions, explain and elaborate the Quran verses. Over the decades, the Muslims were very meticulous in gathering and authenticating these teachings. Not only did they preserve the teachings in detail, they also preserved with them the chain of narrators that related these teachings and also information about these narrators.
Eternal Miracle
Al-Quran is the only ever living miracle. Today no other miracle of any prophet exists. According to a survey, the number of Huffaz (persons who have memorized the whole Quran) today is more than 10 million. Millions of editions and copies were printed and handwritten in almost every part of the world. They were also translated into most of the languages of mankind. During the period of over 1400 years since the Quran was revealed, not a single letter was changed. This is one of the greatest miracles of the Quran.
এ লেখাটি যখন লিখছি তখন একান্ত প্রিয় এক ছোট ভাই ওপরের ইংরেজি প্যারাটির বোল্ড ও আন্ডার লাইন অংশটি পড়তে গিয়ে Muslim শব্দটি প্রচলিত ব্রিটিশদের মতো উচ্চারণে মুজলিম বলে ফেললো। আর যায় কোথায়, তাকে অনেক কথা শুনিয়ে দিলাম। আসলে তাকে নয় সেই সবাইকেই যারা এমনটি বলেন। ধরো তোমার নাম ইউসুফ বা ইব্রাহিম। ওরা যদি তোমাকে জেকভ বা আব্রাহাম বলে ডাকে, তুমি কি খুশি হবে? আর এর অর্থ যদি বাজে কিছু হয় তবে? সবচেয়ে ভয়ঙ্কর ব্যাপার আমরা আবার নিজেরাই সেই নামেই অন্যদের কাছে নিজের পরিচয় তুলে ধরছি। ওরা যেন দুনিয়ার পভু, ওরা বলে দিচ্ছে আমার নিজের নামের উচ্চারণটা কী হবে? ওহ শিট! নাকি, ছিঃ লজ্জা! কোন্টা বলবো। আসলে মুজলিম অর্থ কী? আমরা কী জানি? আজ এ পর্যন্তই। আল বিদা।
ওহ! ভালো কথা, গত সেপ্টেম্বরে একটি ধাঁধা ছিল না? কয়জন উত্তর দিয়েছো? বেশির ভাগ দাওনি। কারণ ১. কঠিন; নাকি ২.পাত্তা দাওনি; ওহ! ৩. নজরে আসেনি। তিনটির কোনটা ভাল??? সবাইকে একটি জরিমানা করব? হ্যাঁ, এই শীতে একটি করে নিজের পুরানো গরম কাপড় দিতে হবে অসহায় মানুষকে; নিজ হাতে। কী পারবে? আশা করি তুমি করবে। হ্যাঁ সঠিক উত্তর হচ্ছে = বই (পুস্তক) বই (ব্যতীত) সব বই (বিস্তৃত) বই (কচুর লতা বা কচু)।।
